Making small talk with your pot dealer sucks. Buying cocaine can get you shot. What if you could buy and sell drugs online like books or light bulbs? Now you can: Welcome to Silk Road.

About three weeks ago, the U.S. Postal Service delivered an ordinary envelope to Mark’s door. Inside was a tiny plastic bag containing 10 tabs of LSD. “If you had opened it, unless you were looking for it, you wouldn’t have even noticed,” Mark told us in a phone interview.

Mark, a software developer, had ordered the 100 micrograms of acid through a listing on the online marketplace Silk Road. He found a seller with lots of good feedback who seemed to know what they were talking about, added the acid to his digital shopping cart and hit “check out.” He entered his address and paid the seller 50 Bitcoins — untraceable digital currency — worth around $150. Four days later, the drugs (sent from Canada) arrived at his house.

“It kind of felt like I was in the future,” Mark said.

Silk Road, a digital black market that sits just below most internet users’ purview, does resemble something from a cyberpunk novel. Through a combination of anonymity technology and a sophisticated user-feedback system, Silk Road makes buying and selling illegal drugs as easy as buying used electronics — and seemingly as safe. It’s Amazon — if Amazon sold mind-altering chemicals.

Here is just a small selection of the 340 items available for purchase on Silk Road by anyone, right now: a gram of Afghani hash; 1/8 ounce of “sour 13″ weed; 14 grams of ecstasy; .1 gram tar heroin. A listing for “Avatar” LSD includes a picture of blotter paper with big blue faces from the James Cameron movie on it.

The sellers are located all over the world, a large portion from the United States and Canada.

I recommended the “Avatar” LSD, especially during the Canadian Whiskey Fungus crisis.

    Torturous

not sure i would trust it

when the people i trust have it, it makes its way where in the family it is needed

too many "research chemicals" out there to try new sources at my age

and there is nothing wrong with fungus or cactus, which are not particularly difficult to get, or make for that matter

add to the above, getting dope mailed to you is a VERY FAST way to get your entire house searched

just watch cops to see how mailed dope crumbles some peoples world around them

not for me, ill stick with grey area for mail order, at max

A few years ago I was on my way to visit a friend that lives in one of those huge buildings with a door man. I knew him because he was a cop moonlighting with a second job.

When I entered the lobby he would not allow me to go upstairs and told me to go do something else. I didnt ask any questions and left.

Later that evening my friend i was trying to visit called me from jail. The post office intercepted a package on marijuana that was headed to her address, re-sealed it and sent it along with a cop dressed like a UPS delivery man.

Once my friend signed for the package and opened it, the cops came back and arrested everyone in the apartment.

Thank goodness that cop helped me out of there. I couldn't do what I do with a federal conviction on my record.

mostly it is very small amounts that get caught, and the feds likely would not get involved with a small amount of weed

and if you had no weed, they may have been able to detain you for questioning and search your person, you would not have been charged mostly because you did nothing wrong and had no involvement

nor would they go after you

it depends on the jurisdiction, of course, but the probable cause to search the residence is what they wanted, and go

When I was having trouble sleeping last year my mom offered (quite innocently) to mail me some prescription sleeping pills she had but wasn't using. I was like "NO ... DO NOT MAIL THOSE TO ME!" lol. This war-on-drugs stuff is so corrosive and damaging, and for all the wrong reasons.

Yeah, they let her house guests go after a day. But I couldn't survive a day in a jail.

My friend called me all night crying for me to help her get out. I thought they only got one phone call.

She kept yell "I can't do the time!" like she was Scareface.

Cops (some of them at least) are not above arresting a person they know to be innocent of drug possession but associated with the primary suspect with a view to using the innocent one as a hostage to get the primary suspect to plead guilty. In return, they drop charges against the innocent. (Once the primary suspect is safely convicted.) Lias was lucky.

That was actually a great article about the Canadian Whiskey Fungus. I read it in it's entirety. Wired is pretty banal, most of the time and I really only read it to insult and taunt Spencer Ackerman in the comments section in Danger Room. The whiskey article was a solid piece of journalism, though, I have to admit.

recently there was a forum admin on... either the xf or the vb site, at his wits end. his forum had been identified somewhere as a place like the that mentioned, a website to score drugs. he was overrun with registrations, drug-related posts, and unexpected traffic.
i reckon silk road will become a pretty popular website ;)
